Cook Time 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 carrots diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • 4 large potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup milk or cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese optional

Instructions

Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:

  • Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender (about 15 minutes).
  • Drain, then mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Set aside.

Cook the Meat Filling:

  • In a skillet, brown the ground beef or lamb over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  • Add the onion, garlic, and carrots. Sauté until softened.
  • Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and broth. Simmer for 10 minutes until thickened.
  • Add frozen peas and cook for another 2 minutes.

Assemble the Pie:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Spread the meat mixture evenly in a baking dish.
  • Top with the mashed potatoes, spreading them to cover the meat completely. Use a fork to create texture on the surface.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top if desired.

Bake:

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbling.

Serve:

  • Let it cool for a few minutes, then serve hot.
