
Shepherd’s Pie Recipe
Ingredients
- 500 g ground beef or lamb
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 2 carrots diced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup beef or chicken broth
- 4 large potatoes peeled and cubed
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup milk or cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese optional
Instructions
Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
- Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender (about 15 minutes).
- Drain, then mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
Cook the Meat Filling:
- In a skillet, brown the ground beef or lamb over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add the onion, garlic, and carrots. Sauté until softened.
- Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and broth. Simmer for 10 minutes until thickened.
- Add frozen peas and cook for another 2 minutes.
Assemble the Pie:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread the meat mixture evenly in a baking dish.
- Top with the mashed potatoes, spreading them to cover the meat completely. Use a fork to create texture on the surface.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top if desired.
Bake:
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbling.
Serve:
- Let it cool for a few minutes, then serve hot.
